Nella Besegue and the young women working in her shop produce hand made souvenirs such as bags, clothes, jewellery and decorative items. Nella also offers paintings and local produce made by artists and farmers from the area. Maurisun offers some of her souvenirs as welcome gifts to their clients, who may also visit the crafts shop on one of the Rainbow Tours. Tourists are thus encouraged to buy handcrafted souvenirs made in Mauritius and help support small local entrepreneurs. Nella aims to employ young girls from the village. She also teaches arts and crafts, as she is sensible to the fact that young girls tend to drift to the city, where they may become prematurely pregnant or fall prey to drugs, AIDS or prostitution. With her shop, Nella wants to be a place where the girls can find something to do which may help them develop self esteem and gain healthy social values for their future life.
Maurisun encourages and helps visitors to support local projects. For more information contact
