Mauritius is definitely more than just a holiday beach destination. When visiting this small island nation, one will note a certain breezy rhythm of life, an atmosphere of relaxed purpose that is far apart from the pulverizing pressures of modern life in industrial countries.

Indeed, very few islands can compare themselves with Mauritius’ multicultural society and incredible geographic, linguistic and culinary variety.

We from Maurisun appreciate the island of Mauritius as a true Rainbow Nation, with the rainbow not only reflected in the landscape and the people, but also in their lifestyle. To us, Mauritius is a precious place, unique and well worth being preserved.

Life on a limited space far off the beaten track brings with it exciting things like above mentioned plant species and cultural achievements such as dance, song and linguistic variation.

On the other hand though, tough facts speak loudly for themselves and cannot remain hidden very long, especially on a tiny micro cosmos surrounded by vast waters.

One of them is that as human beings we are all dependent on the limited natural resources of our one and only home planet. Due to mismanagement, these resources are at present in a state of decline, leading to thoughts and questions about how this will affect the lives and future of our children. The resolution is simple: it all depends on how we tackle that issue right now.

Today, plants, wildlife and the aquatic environment are dramatically affected by pollution, over-harvesting, industrial development and other factors all of which are caused by the increasing number and the behaviour of our race. The occurrence of acid rain, polluted drinking water, species extinction and reef degradation, proves that our ecosystem is not healthy at all.

It is easy to spot the multitude of problems facing natural environments worldwide and our own surroundings in particular. It is just as easy however, to spot our opportunities in getting involved in and contributing to solution finding and we strongly encourage you to do that.
