The world of Reef Conservation Mauritius PDF Print E-mail

Reef Conservation Mauritius is an NGO dedicated to the conservation and restoration of the Marine Environment of Mauritius through research and educational projects.

Human activities have severely degraded our Marine Environment. Destructive fishing practices, pollution, unplanned development and tourism as well as recreational activities threaten it even further. We aim to provide solutions and encourage its conservation by means of education and reserarch.

The Marine Environment is a ressource of great value. We all benefit from it. For island states such as Mauritius, it is a live-sustaining source of food, income and recreation. The reefs create natural breakwaters that protect beaches and shorelines. And way beyond this, the Marine Environment literally provides the water we drink and the air we breathe.

In its work, Reef Conservation Mauritius aims to engage professional marine biologists and support staff for the implementation and management of projects and the training of volunteer divers and crew. While each project is an independent entity, they are inter-related, underpinning each other through research and education to provide a holistic approach to marine conservation.
