Page 1 of 4 The world of The Art Academy The house in the quiet suburb of Sodnac does not look any different when viewed from the outside. Once you approach though, you may hear rhythmic footsteps and a determined voice counting out aloud. What are they doing in there, you may ask yourself. Is this a cult or religious movement; a new form of martial arts? In front of the entrance, you may notice a strange symbol on the wall. This is reflected in the huge portrait at the reception desk. As you descend the stairs leading to the source of the rhythmic noise, you will see a class of dancers in exotic costumes, dancing steps accompanied by fluent, gracious hand movements. And in front of them, no doubt, are Anna Patten and Sanedhip Bhimjee. Welcome to Art Academy and get ready for a new world. The first thing I learned as I got to know the dynamic masters of the Kathak, the ancestral dance from Moghul India was that dance is actually a form of communication. |
