Sanedhip Bhimjee opinion on Art and Culture To me, there are two ways of looking at the world, the political and the artistic way. I would like to illustrate this point of view by taking for instance the Mauritian flag. When looking at its colours, the politically oriented person may perceive the Red as the colour of the labour party, the Blue for PMXD, the Yellow for the party Lalite, the Green for MR. Now from my artistic point of view, of course the colours translate completely different: Red stands for our mother earth, the fire and everything red found in nature, like red flowers or a sunset. Blue represents the sky, the ocean and the lakes and streams. Yellow stands for the sun, the sand of the great deserts and all the yellow fields and flowers. Green encompasses the environment, the forests, the grass, and the plants. Going from there it is evident to see, that even though politicians and artists may have similar personalities, the essence of what they are doing is entirely diverse: Artists create beauty, or at least things that are beautiful to them, whereas politicians oftentimes kill beauty for financial gain. |
